Students from UNC Jaycee Burn Center: “Teen Weekend Escape” Hosted

Members of the CMI took part in hosting approximately 24 students and counselors from the UNC Jaycee Burn Center. A program on “interactive science” was the first stop on an NC State tour coordinated by Tara Britt and UNC Burn Center Camp Counselors. After an overview by Dr. Jorge Piedrahita and Julie Nettifee, the campers had an opportunity to participate in some “hands-on” science:

• FTE Regenerative Medicine with Dr. Jorge Piedrahita, Dr. Ke Cheng, Dr. Ashley Brown and Renan Sper.
• TPP and Mathematical Modeling with Dr. Belinda Apka.
• EID and Science Testing with Brittany Sherbert, representing Dr. Ed. Breitschwerdt and the Tick Borne Disease Lab.
• Biomedical Career Opportunities with CMI Associate Members, Alix Berglund and Pedro Huebner.

This program was a great chance for the CMI to provide outreach science education to high school students and to work with the UNC Burn Center. We would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Bruce Cairns and Tara Britt for this invitation.
