Undergraduate Minor: Teamwork in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research
The Teamwork in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research (TEAM) minor, developed by the Comparative Medicine Institute (CMI) in collaboration with the University Honors Program, is a 16-hour minor that is designed for students who seek to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of interdisciplinary team science. The coursework is grounded in research, leadership, communication, and application. Students have the opportunity to participate in leadership and communication courses, team research, and application through extension and engagement. The student in the minor may be preparing for graduate work in the sciences or preparing for a professional career that involves scientific research teams. This minor will be available to students in the University Honors and Scholars Program and other students who successfully complete an application to the minor.
Minor Requirements
Students are required to take 16 credit hours for the minor. The courses include an introduction to Team Science course, 9 credit hours of research courses that have a team science focus, a communication course, a leadership course, and the BioTeam Academy that will serve as a capstone style course.
- Completion of a minimum of 16 required credit hours
- A minimum overall GPA of 3.25 in the minor
- Students may not take minor coursework on a credit only (pass/fail) or S/U basis
- The minor coordinator will certify the minor prior to graduation
- A minimum of 13 of the 16 required credit hours must be completed at NC State
- The minor must be completed no later than the final semester in which the student expects to graduate from his or her degree program. Paperwork for certification must be completed no later than during the registration period for the student’s final semester at NC State University.
