By Julie Nettifee

Yiwei Li from Dr. Gavin Williams research group won the 2017 Comparative Medicine Institute Award for Chemistry sponsored by EID for her research poster entitled, “Enabling polyketide synthetic biology via genetically-encoded biosensors.” The project goal is to enable access to the next generation of antibiotics by leveraging massively paralleled engineering of microbes. The poster award is given to a graduate student who is selected by a panel of industry and academic judges to represent the most impressive application of Chemistry to solve interdisciplinary problems at the interface of Chemistry, Biology, Engineering and/or Medicine..

Yiwei Li is an NC State Graduate student exploring the interface of synthetic biology and nature product biosynthesis.  Her primary mentor and CMI member, is Dr. Gavin Williams.
